If you’re following my Instagram, you would know that I travelled to South Australia in January. Frankly, I have never been to Australia and this was my first ever one. According to Lonely Planet, South Australia is one of the top 5 must-see regions in the world. I personally agree with the statement, even though it was only 5-days trip, but I’ve experienced different kind of activities such as wine tasting, wildlife park experience, beaches hopping, and so on! Basically South Australia is a one-stop destination for world-class wine, unbeatable gourmet food and produce, picturesque natural scenery, and unique wildlife. There were so many things to do and I can’t wait to share with you my experiences!
To make it easier, I’ve listed out the 12 ways to experience South Australia. Adelaide, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley were the places I went, I’ve got to try out different activities in such a short period!
Adelaide
Adelaide is a contemporary yet friendly city, which surrounded by rolling hills, exquisite beaches with crystal-clear water and 19th century sandstone architectural buildings. From cafes and restaurants, parks, cellar doors, events and sporting festivals can be found in this beautiful city. When I was there, there was Santos Tour Down Under happening in the city.
- Beaches hopping
One thing I like the most about Adelaide is the beaches with crystal-clear water. Glenelg is the nearest to the city and easy to reach by tram, it is Adelaide’s most popular beach destination, with shops, cafes and restaurants around.
Another beach that I went is Port Willunga, which was around 45 mins away from the city. I am glad to have a tour guide driving me to the destination. Port Willunga beach is one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. The ruins of a jetty is the iconic places of the beach. I had the best fish and chip over there!
2. Be like a local (Adelaide central market, Adelaide arcade)
Sip on a coffee, walk in the market, try out some local gourmet, this is what you should do when you’re in Adelaide! There were plenty of local shops and stores in Adelaide Central Market, especially the variety of meats, cheese and wines.
3. Walk in the park
I realized there were plenty of parks in Adelaide, greenery landscape and also a picturesque spot.
Adelaide Hills
The Adelaide Hills is less than a 30 mins drive from Adelaide, and once here you will discover less traffic and picturesque country roads. There were plenty of activities to do in Adelaide Hills, whether for a romantic getaway, family fun, friends’ outing, and I’ve got to experienced couple of interesting activities!
Koala hold was one of the precious memories I have, trust me it’s not easy as it seemed. Koala is the most famous and protected animal in Australia. Other than Koala, I actually got to feed Wallabies and Kangaroos in Gorge Wildlife Park too!
5. Pick your own fruit
6. Mount Lofty Summit
Mount Lofty Summit is 710 metres above sea level, offers spectacular scenery across Adelaide’s city skyline to the coast. They provide accommodation as well, with ample parking. I genuinely liked the sunset overlooking the valleys.
Barossa Valley
I had so much fun in Barossa Valley! From hot-air ballooning to segwaying and wildlife spotting, the Barossa has a wide range of experiences to enjoy. Yet, Barossa keeps many of the old world traditions alive.
7. Hot air balloon adventure
The most exciting experience I had in South Australia was the hot-air balloon adventure! When I was at the top overlooked the view of Barossa Valley, it was beautiful that it took my breath away. I couldn’t believe I was actually looking at this breath taking view.
8. Get on Harley Davidson trike
Probably one of the most interesting activities that I’ve done in South Australia, enjoying the view from the back of the outstanding trike, the most stylish way to tour around Barossa Valley!
9. Wine tasting
I was glad to join the wine tasting class at Jacob’s Creek Visitor’s Centre, my knowledge towards wine improved and I’ve got to try out the fine wine by Jacob’s Creek. They have the spectacular vineyards behind of the centre.
A 60-mins two-wheeled tour from Seppeltsfield Cafe, accessing special vistas and unique views that usually not open for public. Cindy and Shane were being attentive and detailed instructions were given.
11. Picnic under the gum tree
The most pleasant way to enjoy lunch, dined at Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop, by the lake, with the view of variety of trees.
12. Make your own blend
Mixing and blending the wine according to the preference at Penfolds Barossa, definitely one of the best experiences!
I was a guest of the South Australia Tourism Commission, however, my opinions are my own.
